A Blog?
From an early age, I always remember enjoying writing. From papers during school to somewhat personal pieces during my first job out of college, writing came naturally. At that point, journaling wasn’t really a thing so I didn’t find myself writing often, just when the opportunity or rather assignment or project presented itself.
In 2020, we had Harper and postpartum rocked me a bit. Who am I kidding, more than a bit. It was at that time I found therapy, something I continue to this day. Little by little, I found myself talking through issues, challenges, successes and anything else that was happening during the day-to-day. As I reflected more on these experiences in life, some of these thoughts made their way into social post captions as another avenue of expression.
Then one day, I came across a Fargo Mom post looking for contributors. While hesitant, I knew I needed to do this for me. I submitted some pieces and they let me in. As I sat down to write my first piece, ‘Do’s and Don’ts from a First Time Mom, One Year Later’, I had some serious self-doubt. ‘Who really cared to read this? What the hell am I going to write about next?’. I pushed through the doubt and submitted my first piece and waited a month or so for it to be published. Nervous, I shared it on Facebook.
And the strangest thing happened! Friends, family and acquaintances from all different areas of my life, were engaging with the piece, tooting my horn with compliments, but even more important, sharing stories from their early days of motherhood.
It was at that moment that the light bulb went off. Getting to share my god-given gift of writing offered not only reflection and reassurance for my own journey, but meaningful connection with others.
So, if you’ve made it this far, thank you! Thank you for being here & engaging.
